With all due respect to New York, Chicago is where you go to see the art of the skyscraper practiced at its highest level — and the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel occupies the bottom 18 floors of an impressive one (by architect Jeanne Gang). Its undulating exteriors provide the rooms with their curvaceous balconies, and the interiors are handsome, with either hardwood floors or deep aquamarine carpets. The location is central, even walkable, just to the south of the river and to the north of Millennium Park, and while there are plenty of reasons to get out, the hotel’s restaurant, bar, spa, and fitness center (complete with three-quarter-scale running track) make a tempting case for staying in.
