Hotel Punta Tragara
Here, on the edge of the town of Capri, barely fifteen minutes’ walk from the city center, is a villa clinging to the side of the cliff, a villa which just happens to have been subject to some design work by a man named Le Corbusier. The forty-four rooms are decorated in a classic twentieth-century style, to match the building’s early modernism — bright colors play off monochrome backgrounds, and the Mediterranean sun seeps into every corner.
Part historical treasure, part blindingly gorgeous villa, the Hotel Punta Tragara is remarkably low-key. Guests admire the view from their balconies or from alongside either of two heated pools, and partake of massages and beauty treatments in advance of dinner by candlelight at Monzu restaurant. It’s a genuinely laid-back and friendly place, which is surprising as there’s plenty it could be pompous about.
Please note: Punta Tragara is open seasonally, from April through October. A three-night minimum is required during the high season.
How to Get There:
The island of Capri is approximately 40 minutes by hydrofoil from Naples Harbor. Hotel Punta Tragara is located on a pedestrian only road. Luggage service to the hotel can be arranged at 10 euros per bag. From the main port of Marina Grande guests should take the funicular to Capri town and walk to the hotel from there (approximately 15 minutes).
