One of five Starred Indian restaurants in London that offer brilliant value for money, Amaya is proof that Indian cuisine should be your go-to for wallet-friendly dining. The cooking comes with clearly defined, well-balanced flavours and a strong level of consistency. The platter-style options for both lunch and dinner showcase a range of dishes – like black pepper chicken tikka – all at a highly appealing price tag.

Lunch Platter, Every Day – £32

Benares
12a Berkeley Square, Mayfair, W1J 6BS London

India’s spiritual capital lends its name to this Berkeley Square institution. The place certainly heralds a sense of occasion as you arrive, heading upstairs past a pool to the spacious, brightly lit restaurant. The cooking shows a strong balance between originality and tradition, always respecting the origins of the cuisine. The best value comes at lunch and early evening; if you’re after something lighter, two courses cost just £43.

Chishuru
3 Great Titchfield Street, Fitzrovia, W1W 8AX London
££££ · African

When it gained its first Star in 2024, Chishuru also became one of the cheapest Starred restaurants in the capital. The four-course lunch menu is a great value way to experience the confidently judged, well-balanced and frankly delicious cooking that the Inspectors love so much. Just be careful when planning your visit, as the restaurant is only open on weekdays.

Four Courses, Mon-Fri Lunch – £50

Club Gascon
57 West Smithfield, City of London, EC1A 9DS London
£££ · French

As its name would suggest, the French region of Gascony is the focus at this long-standing restaurant owned and run by Chef Pascal Aussignac. That means rich, decadent cuisine from France’s southwest, served in traditionally elegant surroundings. There’s plenty of value to be found in its seasonal set menu, featuring the likes of tipsy duck magret with pommes confites.

Three Courses, Tues-Sat Dinner – £46
Three Courses, Weds-Fri Lunch – £46

Dining Room at The Goring
15 Beeston Place, Belgravia, SW1W 0JW London
££££ · Traditional British

The Goring isn’t the kind of place you would expect to find one of London’s more affordable MICHELIN-Star menus. It is, after all, a rather grand hotel beloved by the Royal Family and one with a certain luxury elegance to its design. And yet come for lunch during the week and for under £50 you can sample the kitchen’s utmost skill in preparing classic dishes with prime-quality produce.

Three Courses, Mon-Fri Lunch – £49

Dysart Petersham
135 Petersham Road, Richmond, TW10 7AA London
££££ · Modern Cuisine

Named after the family who once lived in nearby Ham House, The Dysart is an undeniably beautiful building, where period features like leaded windows and flagstone floors blend with more contemporary design elements. There’s even room for an antique grand piano, which comes into its own during dinner and concert evenings. The cooking pushes seasonal produce to the fore, with the ‘Garden Menu’ the most affordable offering.

Three Courses, Thurs-Fri Lunch and Weds, Thurs & Sun Dinner – £55

Elystan Street
43 Elystan Street, Chelsea, SW3 3NT London
£££ · Modern British

Elystan Street is one of those great London restaurants that slightly flies under the radar, essentially acting as a particularly brilliant version of your well-loved neighbourhood restaurant. From the atmosphere to the lovely service team, there's a reassuringly relaxed, welcoming quality about the place that's hard to replicate. There's value to be found here too, in the keenly priced lunch and early evening menu.

Galvin La Chapelle
35 Spital Square, Shoreditch, E1 6DY London
£££ · French

This characterful red-brick former school is surrounded by the financial district’s modern, glass-fronted towers, so there’s always a strong corporate contingent dining here during the week. Run by brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin, the cooking is unashamedly classic in style and underpinned by time-honoured signature dishes. The building’s original Victorian features blend with linen-covered tables to make for a brasserie deluxe feel.

Three Courses, Mon-Fri Lunch – £55

HIDE
85 Piccadilly, Mayfair, W1J 7NB London
££££ · Modern British

Serving MICHELIN-Starred food and in a particularly enviable location overlooking Green Park, it’s no surprise this restaurant is so popular. Many people love to come here for their breakfast offering, but we recommend seeking out the well-priced set menu offered both at lunchtime and early in the evening. What’s more, the team advertise that the menu can be enjoyed within an hour – perfect if you have post-dinner plans.

Three Courses, Lunch & Early Evening Every Day – £58

Humo
12 St George Street, Mayfair, W1S 2FB London
££££ · Grills

‘Humo’ means ‘smoke’ in Spanish, so it’s no surprise that this restaurant is all about cooking over flames. So much so that the à la carte is organised by the stage of fire used to prepare the produce: Ignite, Smoke, Embers and Flame. For the best value though, come for the simple set lunch menu with a choice of main course. The dining room is smart and elegant, dominated by a long kitchen counter.

Three Courses, Mon-Sat Lunch – £49

Jamavar
8 Mount Street, Mayfair, W1K 3NF London
££££ · Indian

Keep an eye out for the bright yellow awning which extends over the pavement of this smart Mayfair address. There’s certainly a fair amount of glitz inside thanks to the rich, opulent décor; try for a table on the ground floor rather than the basement level, as it’s a bit more fun. Dishes originate from across India’s many regions and are prepared with care and authenticity, while exhibiting a pleasing individuality and a lack of pretence.

Three Courses, Lunch Every Day – £51

Kitchen W8
11-13 Abingdon Road, Kensington, W8 6AH London

Once you add in the wallet-friendly set menu, it’s pretty hard to beat as an all-round package.

La Trompette
3-7 Devonshire Road, Chiswick, W4 2EU London

Luca
88 St John Street, Clerkenwell, EC1M 4EH London
££££ · Italian

The tastes of Italy meet the finest British produce at this well-run restaurant, where the cooking is balanced, flavoursome and skilfully judged. Dishes might include fried Jerusalem artichoke, roast coppa or a tiramisu for dessert.

Pétrus by Gordon Ramsay
1 Kinnerton Street, Belgravia, SW1X 8EA London
££££ · French

Swish Belgravia isn’t known for its affordability, but as MICHELIN-Star restaurants in this part of town go, Pétrus is pretty reasonable. Like a lot of Gordon Ramsay operations, dishes have a French basis and push quality ingredients to the fore. Named after a renowned Bordeaux estate, wine is also a big part of the appeal, so maybe take advantage of having saved some money on your lunch by going for an extra-special bottle.

Three Courses, Tues-Fri Lunch – £47

Sabor
35-37 Heddon Street, Mayfair, W1B 4BR London
£££ · Spanish

This fun, engaging Spanish restaurant is split over two floors, each with its own menu and approach. The upstairs El Asador showcases dishes from the ‘asador’ wood-fired oven, while The Counter is home to a tapas menu with influences from all over Spain. As is often the case with tapas, some judicious ordering can result in a great value experience – just try to refrain from ordering a whole suckling pig.

Ingredients like tripe, bone marrow and all manner of offal populate the gutsy, generous dishes offered at appealing prices. This is a no-frills dining experience powered by real quality cooking.

Top ingredients bring plenty of flavour, in dishes that showcase well-judged contrasts and skilled preparation. The menu typically involves sharing, but their set lunch offers a straightforward three-course option at a fraction of the usual price.

Vegans and vegetarians are well catered for too.

Three Courses, Lunch & Early Evening Every Day – £50

Veeraswamy
Victory House, 99 Regent Street, Mayfair, W1B 4RS London
£££ · Indian

Pitched at the city centre’s tiring shoppers, the weekend lunch deal at Veeraswamy is a must for fans of Indian cooking. Not only is this officially the oldest Indian restaurant in the UK, but it’s also one of the best. Unlike with many lunch menus, diners are not restricted in their choice, instead having a full array of dishes to pick from. There is a notable amount of skill on display across the varied dishes, plus some fine British produce.
