Clare Smyth’s London: Where Does a Three-Star Chef Eat?

The woman behind CORE by Clare Smyth gives us her take on the best restaurants in the city.

In our regular series, we ask famous chefs and personalities to tell us all about 'their London'. From top tips on where to dine in the city, to their personal haunts ranging from bakeries to book shops, we’ve got the inside track on London’s premier spots from the people who know it best.

Running a Three-MICHELIN-Star restaurant puts you in pretty elite company; not many people know what it feels like to cook at the very highest level. It’s a feeling Clare Smyth must be well used to by now though. After stints in several top restaurants, Clare cemented her formidable reputation in the industry while working as Head Chef at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, where she maintained the establishment’s incredibly high standards and retained Three Stars year after year. Since 2017, she has run her own restaurant, CORE by Clare Smyth, which also holds Three Stars. So who better to give us the lowdown on the very best that London has to offer, than one of its greatest chefs?

What are your favourite restaurants in London?

“To only pick a few restaurants is so difficult because of the diversity. London is truly one of the best places to eat in the world. I am obviously very passionate about fine dining and a place that has a very personal connection to me is Restaurant Gordon Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road. It is a destination for all serious foodies. So much history. Such a special place.

“Then there is Andrew Wong's acclaimed restaurant, A. Wong, located in the heart of Pimlico. Andrew is not only one of the nicest chefs in London but also one of the most talented. The Chinese cuisine at his restaurant is truly second to none, showcasing an innovative yet authentic approach that sets it apart from other establishments. Dining at A. Wong is an incredible experience that takes you on a culinary journey through the diverse and rich traditions of Chinese cooking. Each dish is meticulously crafted, reflecting a deep understanding of flavour, technique and presentation. The menu is thoughtfully designed to offer a range of tastes and textures, ensuring that every meal is a feast for the senses.”
